Grantham MP welcomes Government funding for Changing Places toilets in the constituency

Gareth Davies MP has welcomed the news that Grantham and Stamford is set to benefit from the Government’s funding of £160,000 for four new Changing Places toilets, awarded to South Kesteven District Council.

The funding for these new facilities has come from the first round of the Government’s Changing Places Fund, through which the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is making up to £30 million available to local authorities to boost the provision of Changing Places toilets.

Changing Places toilets have features and equipment – such as greater space for carers and mobility aids, curtains, adult-sized changing benches, and hoists – which are crucial for people who cannot use standard toilet facilities, and for their families, carers, and loved ones.

Gareth said: “I am absolutely delighted that the Government’s funding for Changing Places toilets has been awarded to South Kesteven. These facilities are so important for disabled people, their families and their carers, and that’s why I have been calling for this funding in speeches in the Chamber and in meeting with the Minister for Disabled People,

“Work and Health. Until now, all three of the major towns in the constituency have had no sufficiently accessible toilets for disabled people and their carers and families, and so I very much hope that SKDC will agree with my calls for these new Changing Places toilets to be distributed across each of Stamford, Grantham, and Bourne.

“I know that this will make a huge difference in enabling disabled people and their families to get out and enjoy our beautiful parks and public spaces, and to go about their daily business in our towns without the obstacle of having no sufficiently accessible facilities nearby, so this an important and most welcome announcement from the Government.”
