Gareth Davies MP has welcomed the announcement of an additional £20 million funding for woodlands, tree planting and the timber industry by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Therese Coffey MP.
Of the investment, £10 million has been awarded through the ‘Woodlands into Management Innovation Fund’ and the ‘Tree Production Innovation Fund’ to support projects that explore new technologies and business models to improve tree planting stock and woodland resilience.
Furthermore, 57 local authorities have been awarded a share of £10 million to accelerate tree planting in their local area. This initiative will see hundreds of thousands of trees planted in communities across England.
As one of the local authorities selected, Lincolnshire County Council will receive £283,387 – one of the highest figures of any authority.
Taken together, this funding demonstrates a significant step towards the Government’s drive to treble tree planting rates across England by the end of this Parliament.
