Grantham MP Nick Boles and Sir Oliver Letwin, along with Labour’s Stephen Kinnock and Lucy Powell, met with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn yesterday, about their “Common Market 2.0” plan
Prime Minister Theresa May has rejected the idea, insisting that single market membership would mean signing up to Brussels’ rules with no influence and accepting continued free movement of people.
She also rejects a customs union because it would restrict the UK’s freedom to strike trade deals around the world after Brexit – a key prize for those who championed leaving the EU.
Mr Corbyn said: “I will continue to reach out to get a decent Brexit deal so our country can spend more time talking about our children’s future than a customs union.”
Mr Boles tweeted: “Oliver Letwin and I were happy to join @LucyMPowell and @SKinnock in this meeting with Jeremy Corbyn to discuss our Common Market 2.0 proposal. For months now we have been meeting with senior MPs from all parties in search of a cross party Brexit compromise.”

This constituency voted 61 % Leave. Not to stay in single market not to have uncontrolled EU immigration not to pay EU billions a year. Leave means Leave. Boles’ contempt for the oiks is nauseating. Respect democracy, honour the referendum result, stop patronizing the electorate.
