Members of Grantham & Stamford Constituency Labour Party (CLP) held an All Members’ Meeting at the Railway Club, Huntingtower Road, Grantham last month to vote on which candidate local members would like to nominate in the Labour Party’s Leadership and Deputy Leadership.
Members from Grantham, Stamford and Bourne attended.
Jeremy Corbyn MP was nominated as the preferred candidate for the leadership and Tom Watson MP nominated as preferred candidate for Deputy Leader.
Nominations from CLPs are used in the election process to show support for candidates.
The final choice will be based on the outcome of the election by party members, supporters and registered affiliates under a ‘one person one vote’ rule.
Constituency Labour Party Chairman and district councillor Charmaine Morgan said: “It was great to see so much interest from local Party members.
“The Labour Party has seen a significant increase in people joining or becoming Labour Party supporters locally, which reflects the level of dissatisfaction over how the current Conservative Government is failing to support ordinary people.
“It is clear from the Labour Party Leadership debate that many members and supporters want an alternative to the current Conservative Government.
“The Conservatives are focussed on targeting public services and ordinary people and implementing legislation that could have a drastic impact on our environment.
“There is an alternative way forward. We could grow our economy for the benefit of all through a fairer distribution of wealth, public investment in housing, and public services, protection of our environment and support of businesses.”
Members and supporters who are registered to vote will have been authenticated by Labour HQ and local party representatives. Everyone eligible to vote should have received their ballot papers by now whether in the post or by email.
