A Grantham hospice has been closed temporarily while essential repairs are made to the building’s structure.
Work is due to be completed early next month.
A spokesman said the hospice’s services are still going ahead in an alternative venue since the Wellbeing Centre is for daycare patients. It’s still business as usual, as they have no inpatients at the hospice in Grantham.
The hospice website reports: “Due to external works needing to take place at St Barnabas Hospice on Barrowby Road, Grantham, we are closing the building for a short period from 15th May – 5th July in order to safely execute these essential works.
“During this period, we will have facilities at Harrowby Lane Methodist Church to enable us to continue the Thursday Coffee Mornings and our Tuesday Bereavement Cafés. Our patients who attended these sessions will be made aware of these temporary changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our team on ‘01476 591 010’.
“We look forward to reopening the building in July and welcoming back our staff, volunteers, patients and supporters.
“Our apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
The house, previously known as Summer End, was once home to local cinema owner John Campbell, father of West End actress Judy Campbell and grandfather to Jane Birkin of J’Tame fame.
It was taken over in the 1990s by Dr Baumber when founded GIFTS (Grantham Initiative for the Terminally Sick) Hospice charity in 1990, which later became St Barnabas.
Rebecca Franks, Director of Patient Care, said: “The works are to replace, repair and improve aspects of the building and its grounds. St Barnabas is wholly committed to delivering services from this building in the long term, demonstrated by us making this investment in the building and site.”
Nicky Ingall, Head of Estates and Facilities, said: “The Grantham external works have been planned and coordinated with the clinical and wellbeing teams. Due to the nature of the work involved, the building has had to be closed to members of the public. We are continuing to offer core services through temporary accommodation locally whilst the building is closed. All work is progressing as planned, and the building will be able to reopen from Thursday 6th July.”
