Grantham gets its own ambassador

October 15, 2024 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

The inorgauration of the first Ambassador of Grantham, took place on Saturday.

Due to rain and cold the whole event took place in The Parlour, Guildhall, St Peter’s Hill, Grantham. There were approximately 40 guests present, a number had never visited the Parlour before. Included among our guests was Cllr Tim Harrison Chair of Grantham Town Council, Vice Chair of Grantham Town Council Marie Reid, Deputy Ambassador Cllr Wayne Hasnip, former Mayor of Grantham Cllr Graham Jeal, Mayor of Market Deeping Cllr Pam Byrd, SKDC Cabinet member for Communities Cllr Rhea Rayside from Stamford, former Cllr Helen Powell from Bourne. Richard Wyles, Director of Finance represented SKDC.

All Grantham Town Councillors and District Councillors were invited. Guests included Grantham Town Councillors and  representatives from charities and organisations across Grantham.

A blessing was provided by Fr Clay Roundtree from St Wulfram’s Church who is also serving pastor at St John’s Church.

The new ambassador, Coun Charmaine Morgan said: “My husband Town Cllr John Morgan and daughter Hope Morgan have been acting as my consorts and will continue to support me this year. Mrs Pam Morgan attended from London.

“The Town Council is running on a tight budget so all food and drink was paid for by myself as a thankyou gift to all present for their contribution to our community.

“It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces with whom I have worked over the years on this special occasion.

“In future we would expect the event will take place in May. This year has been exceptional as the new Town Council has taken over from the Charter Trustees.

“We are hugely indebted to Anita Eckersley and Cllrs Tim Harrison and Marie Reid for the work they have done to help form the foundation of the new council.

“Thanks to all who attended, and, to Digby’s Cafe who assisted with the catering.”
