Grantham funeral celebrant Adam Jacobs has started 2025 with a new website aimed at supporting more families thinking about a non-religious funeral or celebration of life for their loved one.
Adam works with families in Lincolnshire, the East Midlands, and beyond, to plan and provide funeral services that help everyone to mourn the life that has ended. At the same time he aims to make sure that your loved one’s life is celebrated through
music and stories that highlight the happy memories they created.
What kind of funeral?
Adam says “there are so many ways to mark someone’s death and celebrate their life. A funeral ceremony at your local crematorium is just fine, but if you are concerned about the environment, then a green burial can be an excellent choice
(more information here). If your loved one wanted to be cremated, you may decide to have a simple, brief ceremony at the crematorium, followed by a more relaxed celebration of life in your local pub, hotel, or village hall, for example.” As a
motorcyclist, Adam has led a number of biker funerals, complete with motorcycle hearse and biker escort, to help personalise the day while keeping the right level of dignity and respect.
What is a Humanist funeral?
Adam is a Humanist celebrant. What does this mean? Quite simply, a Humanist is a non-religious celebrant. Humanist ceremonies focus on the life of the person, who they were, and what they meant to those around them. To call yourself a Humanist
celebrant, you have to be trained and accredited by Humanists UK. The benefits of using a Humanist celebrant include being covered by their insurance and code of conduct. There is also a regional network so that, in the unlikely event that Adam
falls ill just before a ceremony, another accredited celebrant can step in and take over.
Humanists are not anti-religion. If you want a hymn or, say, the Lord’s Prayer at a funeral, this can be arranged. Adam makes sure his ceremonies are inclusive, and there are always a few moments for anyone who wants to do so to say a silent
prayer.
How can I be sure the funeral is just right?
Each one of Adam’s funerals and celebrations of life is unique. That is because he spends time with the family and friends of the person who has died to find out what that person was really like. After that, he tailors an individual ceremony for the family to approve, so each one reflects the unique character and personality of your loved one. The testimonials on Adam’s website, and at Humanists UK here show how dependable he is.
Can I speak or read a poem at my relative’s funeral?
Definitely! Adam will support you all the way. Playing your part in the funeral of someone you cared deeply about is a very special way of honouring their memory. As an experienced writer and editor, Adam can help you write something meaningful,
M or choose the best poem for the occasion.
How does Adam work with funeral directors?
As an experienced celebrant, Adam will liaise with your chosen funeral director to make sure that planning and attending the funeral is as straightforward and stress- free as possible for you.
