
The Journal offices on the right, behind the bus stop, in a highly decorated High Street for the Queens Coronation in June 1953. Next door was butcher’s Dewhurst. Near the picture is printers and stationers W. G. Harrison, which later moved to the corner of Finkin Street.

MAYORS Sunday, a few days after the Coronation. Ald Joseph Hardacre to be Mayor and led the parade to St Wulframs Church. Young children enjoy walking with an Army band, probably the Kings School CCF, along High Street. Stationers J. P. Nightingale were later taken over by Harrisons, who had for many years been opposite the former Journal offices.
