Funhouse Comedy Club is back at Grantham Cricket Club, on Friday August 13th for another great night full of laughter.
The show takes place outdoors in a marquee with plenty of fresh air circulation.
Topping the bill is Pierre Hollins who has been an audience favourite on the comedy circuit for many years, and has headlined at clubs throughout the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. In the early days, he worked as a support act to Lenny Henry and Rory Bremner, appeared in the West End with Rita Rudner and toured with The Flying Pickets, Willie Rushton & Barry Cryer. He has completely re-invented his act several times. In a more recent incarnation, he was found wielding an electric squash racket! His relaxed amiability is defined by a compelling conversational style and absurd guitar posturing.
Opening the night will be Shazia Mirza, an international award-winning comedian and columnist for the Guardian Weekend magazine who has also guested on ‘Have I Got News For You?’ From Birmingham, she was previously a science teacher with one of her former pupils being the rapper Dizzee Rascal. Star of radio and TV she has appeared on ‘Last Comic Standing’, ‘Richard and Judy’ and ‘The Wright Stuff’. Shazia’s distinctive act combines a deadpan delivery with observation on her world; her laconic one-liners represent something quite unique in modern comedy.
Completing the line-up is the quirky James Dowdeswell who has appeared on such TV shows as ‘Russell Howard’s Good News’, ‘Celebrity Deal Or No Deal’ and who also played The Count in Ricky Gervais’ ‘Extras’. His intelligent and inventive storytelling is delivered from a slightly strange perspective, which is both entertaining and captivating.
Compere for the night will be the lively and chatty Spiky Mike.
