Grantham auditions start for cult play

January 18, 2023 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Casting is beginning for Grantham Dramatic Society’s next production – ‘Clue’ – and auditions are open to anyone who’s interested in taking part. This brand new play is based on the cult film of the same name, which brings the classic board game Cluedo to life in a hilariously madcap whodunnit.
Will you be able to answer the question who did it, where and with what?
Anyone who would like to get involved with the group is invited to attend at 7.30pm on 19, 24 and
26 January to take part in informal and friendly auditions. The sessions are open to people who’d
like to perform as well as helping with offstage roles, such as set building, marketing, costumes and technical.
‘Clue’ takes the playing pieces from Cluedo – Mrs White, Mrs Peacock, Miss Scarlet, Colonel
Mustard, Professor Plum and Mr Green, plus the butler and staff – and turns them into a selection
of comic characters who end up in a creepy old house in 1950s America. Their stories are
mysteriously intertwined, and once the collection of murder weapons appear, the body count
begins to rise.

Director Mark Brown said: “Many of us in GDS are huge fans of the original film, and have been
looking forward to putting on a stage version for years. It’s finally become available to groups like
us, and we can’t wait to get started.
“We always welcome new members to the group, and the start of a new production is the perfect
time, both for people who want to act and those who’d like to be part of the show backstage.
Putting on a play is a huge team effort, and everyone who wants to get stuck in is a valuable part of that team.”

‘Clue’ was originally written by John Landis (who directed films such as ‘Coming to America’ and
‘Blues Brothers’) and Jonathan Lynn (British actor, writer and director, who wrote and directed
classic sitcom ‘Yes, Minister’), and the stage version is by Sandy Rustin (actor and writer with
dozens of TV, film and theatre credits).
GDS encourages people of all backgrounds who are interested in theatre and making new friends to get in touch via www.granthamdramaticsociety.co.uk or info@granthamdramaticsociety.co.uk, or
via the group’s Facebook page at @GDS.Amdram.

Auditions will take place at Grantham Dramatic Society’s rehearsal venue at the rear of 85
Westgate. There is an entrance on Westgate to the right of Petticoat’s Tea Room, or parking is
available at the rear, accessed from Greyfriars.
‘Clue’ will run at the Guildhall Arts Centre from 7 to 10 June, 2023. Tickets will be on sale soon.
