Ebenezer Goold (c1880 -1940)
EBENEZER Goold MA Mus.Bac was a pioneer and an outstanding figure in the Brotherhood Movement, and at one time a Congregational minister.
He helped form the Grantham Brotherhood in 1905 and held the office of national secretary, and became president the national movement in 1927.
He put to good use his gifts an organist, playing regularly at the local Brotherhood meetings.
He was associated with Congregational church on Peter’s Hill for nearly 24 years
For number of years he was chairman of the YMCA Red Triangle Club executive committee.
In other spheres, he also exerted his efforts for the benefit of his fellow men and mention should made particular of his activities member of the library committee.
Mr. Goold left Grantham for Leamington Spa, his native town, in 1926.
Mr Goold was advertising manager for Ruston & Hornsby and his first wife was the sister of works manager David Roberts.
His second marriage, shortly after leaving Grantham, was a romantic outcome of the National Brotherhood conference at Hastings, where he met Miss A Jepson an organist of both the Hastings Brotherhood and Sisterhood, and a deacon at the Robertson-street Congregational church.
After this marriage he moved to Hastings where he died.
