
A world-renowned art installation is to land in Grantham next year, South Kesteven District Council announced.
The giant inflatable walk-through luminarium sculpture is set to attract crowds from miles around, with tickets going on sale at the start of 2027.
Wyndham Park will be its home from 27 March – 4 April 2027, where people can walk its colourful labyrinth of tunnels and domes. Lit by natural daylight through the translucent material, the luminarium comes to life. creating an ever-changing, immersive experience.
The multi-sensory experience on offer has been described as “calming, comforting and exciting” with inclusivity central to its work. A Luminarium gives access to a very broad audience, embracing all ages, all abilities, all cultures and communities.
SKDC Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Paul Stokes, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to offer this experience to the people of South Kesteven; it’s an attraction we’ve been seeking to secure for some time.
“We’re going public on the dates nice and early so that people can plan the perfect family day out, experiencing a unique immersive experience as well as everything else Grantham has to offer.
“It’s the ideal opener ahead of Newton 300 celebrations, focusing on light, colour, and natural phenomena – a strong link to Isaac Newton’s pioneering work in optics and the science of light.”
Colsterworth-born Sir Isaac Newton, who died in 1727, was one of the world’s greatest scientists, and his legacy is being celebrated across the country 300 years on, in 2027.
The Luminarium Terceradix structure, created by the Nottingham company Architects of Air, has attracted more than 3 million visitors across over 40 countries on five continents and now comes to Grantham thanks to funding from the Future High Street Fund.
Cllr Stokes added: “Anyone of any age or background can connect with it – in fact visitors are invited wander, to lie down, to sit down and enjoy the ambience and the space. It’s said to have an energising effect on children and a calming effect on adults!”
Ticket details, for timed slots during the residency, will follow in early 2027.
Architects of Air has delivered amazing experiences for local families for over 30 years. The Terceradix’s name signifies the 30th Luminarium design, conceived and built in the 30th year of Architects of Air. Tercera- coming from the Spanish third and -dix from the French for ten.
