Getting children to be active

March 31, 2019 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

inspire+ is a Grantham based sport charity, who serve schools in South Kesteven and wider Lincolnshire.

inspire+ is a totally unique charity, who receive no Government funding and are recognised nationally as delivering the most comprehensive package to Primary Schools.

inspire+ is now in its 7th year and rely on generating its own funding through school memberships, grants & awards, sponsorship and fund-raising opportunities. Every penny raised ensures the continuation of our services and initiatives to benefit the lives of young people in schools and the community.

inspire+ aims to improve the lives of Young People through sport and healthy, active lifestyles. We provide a comprehensive package to our Primary Schools; including specialist sports coaching, teacher training, Gifted & Talented pupils programmes and mentoring programmes.

We have five Ambassadors who visit our schools to work with the children, delivering regular communications and tailored assemblies; these are Paralympian Sam Ruddock, Adventurer Sarah Outen MBE, 401 Marathon Runner Ben Smith, Paralympic Silver Medallist Jonathan Broom-Edwards and Olympic Swimmer Sophie Allen.

Each academic year concludes with over 1000 primary school children taking part in their very own Mini Olympics at the Grantham Meres Athletics Stadium, which is organised by the charities secondary school volunteers; the Young Ambassador Steering Group. Ran by young people, for young people.

Exciting opportunities are currently in development for future expansion of what we can offer to the community.

We aim to reignite sporting opportunities for the older generation via our new package tailored for those in care, who may have a diverse range of cognitive and mobility impairments. Our inclusive and adapted activities will offer something for all abilities; including elements of competition, cognitive therapy and socialisation. The activities will include boccia, new-age curling, seated gymnastics and seated volleyball!

We offer an Apprenticeship programme working in partnership with New College Stamford and Boston College. We currently support over 70 apprentices in schools across the East of England. Our apprentices spend 4 days a week in their schools and 1 day a week with their inspire+ tutor.

The course is the 1st4Sport NVQ Level 3 Supporting the delivery of PE and School Sport. It is aimed at anybody aspiring to work in physical education or a school sport setting.

We also hold Sports camps during school holidays to provide sporting provisions for youngsters to keep them active and engaged in new sports.
