Previous drainage works in Long Bennington, completed in 2023.
Following the completion of a drainage improvement scheme last year, a second phase of flood prevention works is set to start in the village in January 2025.
The scheme aims to further reduce the risk of flooding in Long Bennington by improving the pipework capacity and installing new gullies further south on Main Road, outside the primary school.
Work will start on 6 January 2025, and are expecting to last for eight weeks.
A new length of drain will be put in along the western verge of Main Road, between Chapel Street and Willow Court, easing the pressure on the existing sewer system.
To keep disruption a minimum whilst work takes place, Main Road will remain open with temporary traffic lights in place.
Parking will be restricted on Main Road around the primary school, so parents should consider alternative arrangements for school drop off and pick up. Work taking place on school grounds is scheduled to take place during February half term.
The footpath outside the school will have to be closed, with pedestrians directed to use the opposite side of the road whilst improvement works take place.
Cllr Alexander Maughan, county councillor for Long Bennington in the Hough Division, said:
“After the initial drainage works were completed in 2023, the team continued looking at what else could be done to prevent surface water issues in the village and have devised this further phase of works to provide more protection for homes and businesses in Long Bennington.
“I appreciate it does mean another eight weeks of disruption whilst work takes place, so we have been proactive in writing to all directly affected properties, and engaging with the school to inform parents and staff.
“This represents an investment of a further £205,000 from the county council to protect the village from the devastating impacts of flooding that we saw back in 2015. Thank you for bearing with us.”
