A Grantham funeral director is urging men to be vigilant about their health and to never ignore the warning signs of testicular cancer—after undergoing emergency surgery and beginning cancer treatment himself.
Jason Price, of Price and Son Funeral Directors, is sharing his personal story to raise awareness and encourage other men to take action. Earlier this year, Jason was diagnosed with testicular cancer, despite not feeling a typical lump or mass often associated with the disease.
“I didn’t even feel a lump—just a sense that something wasn’t quite right,” said Jason. “Thankfully, I went to see the team at Vine House Surgery, and they acted incredibly quickly. I can’t thank them enough.”
After his GP appointment, Jason was swiftly referred to Grantham Hospital, where a scan confirmed the presence of a malignant tumour. Within days, he underwent a radical orchidectomy—the surgical removal of the affected testicle.
“I want to use my experience to highlight just how important it is to listen to your body,” Jason said.
“Even if there’s no obvious lump, any pain, discomfort or unusual feeling should be checked out immediately. It could save your life.”
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men, but with early detection, it has one of the highest survival rates. Regular self-checks can be key to spotting changes early, and resources like the Check Your Lemons guide offer easy-to-follow advice on how to check safely and effectively.
Jason added: “As someone who deals with loss every day in my work, I can’t stress enough how important it is not to delay. Get checked. Speak to your GP. It’s a short conversation that could mean many more years of life.”
