A fund raising site has raised more than £10,000 so far, to support the family whose mother died following a collision on Thursday evening.
It happened on Barrowby Road, near the junction Greenhill Road, when the woman walking with two of her children was struck by a car.
The children were injured but their 40-year-old mother died of her injuries.
A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and for drink driving after he failed a roadside breath test.
Ian Haynes is organizing this fundraiser, said: “I’m here to help raise as much as we can for the two young children and their family that was involved in an in incident yesterday (Thursday) evening, I just want to point out that I don’t know the lady or the children personally and details are very little at the minute so until the police have done with their investigation let’s not speculate too much but let’s help as much as we possibly can by raising as much as we can.
“The devastating news we heard yesterday evening, as many of you will know, the children’s mother sadly lost her life, its hit home to us all and especially being in our local community.
“Let’s show these children as community and united as a town what we can do together. Let’s stand beside them and help raise the children and their family some funds in this difficult time.”
By early this morning, more than £6,000 had been raised from several hundred donations.
