South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) wants to see residents on the move and trying hula hooping, yoga or even Giant Jenga.
Get SK Moving is a series of events taking place across the district this week, focused on encouraging people to be more active and SKDC is inviting everyone to take part.
The events are funded by the Government’s Welcome Back Fund and will be at:
Market Deeping Market: Wednesday, 2nd March, 8am – noon
Bourne Market: Thursday, 3rd March, 8am – 4pm
Stamford Red Lion Square: Friday 4th March, 8am – 4pm
Grantham Market Place, Saturday 5th March, 8am – 4pm
Cllr Barry Dobson, SKDC’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “All the events are designed with fun and family in mind, so you don’t need to be sporty to join in.
“It’s not competitive, it’s all about enjoyable activities and moving in whatever way makes you happy. You don’t need to wear sports kit and, best of all, it’s free.
“These events offer something for everyone and are happening in each of the four market towns across the district, so everyone should have one close to where they live.
“SKDC is committed to supporting events that promote and encourage leisure and fitness, both of which can also have a positive impact on people’s mental health.”
LeisureSK, which provides flexible and affordable family-friendly leisure services across the district, will be offering a series of activities such as rowing, hula hooping, Giant Jenga, toy archery and skipping.
Members of the LeisureSK team will be offering free fitness advice and free VIP guest passes for its leisure centres in Grantham, Stamford and Bourne. Visitors can also have their Body Mass Index (BMI) checked, which uses height and weight to measure health.
They will be supported by One You Lincolnshire who will also be offering on-site health checks and advice.
At the Grantham and Stamford events there will be the chance for visitors to test their pedal-power on a special exercise bike hooked up to a blender that produces tasty smoothies using fruit from the local market.
Other Grantham events include Stephen Grey football workshops and demonstrations, bite-size fitness classes, and the Bike Doctor will be on hand with tips on cycle maintenance.
The sports charity, Inspire+, will host challenges involving Badminton, orienteering, seated volleyball, goalball, new age kurling and boccia, as well as problem solving and team building activities.
Grantham Tennis Club, The Woodland Trust, Belvoir Tri and a Ride Leader from British Cycling will also be promoting their clubs and offering their own activities.
Times and activities are subject to change depending on scheduling and the weather.
