Our places in Lincolnshire and South Nottinghamshire have their own distinctive, quirky personalities; so whether you have a budding artist, a medieval game player, an astronaut or kite flyer, there should be something for everyone to enjoy.
There’s an assortment of delights to try. Follow a Weird Planets trail at Woolsthorpe Manor, join a family house tour at Belton, go bug hunting at Lyveden, have a sophisticated game of croquet at Gunby Hall or try medieval cooking at Tattershall Castle.

Woolsthorpe Manor
Launch yourself into a ‘Planets & Discovery’ themed half term at Woolsthorpe Manor. Gravity has pulled an unusual object to earth from outer space and it has landed in the Barn at Woolsthorpe Manor. Come and visit a two-thirds scale Lego® model of the Soyuz Descent Module. Yes a spacecraft built from Lego®! Take a #SpaceSelfie and then you can follow a free Weird Planets trail as it weaves its way around the site. Join in one of our mid-week Planets & Discovery workshops (Tue 28 May – Thu 30 May) and experience the colossal scale of the solar system, get to know our weird and wonderful planets and make parachutes to bring spacecraft to a safe landing.

The Workhouse, Southwell
There are lots of events running for the whole family to get involved in. Experience a full programme of living history events and exhibitions. Over May half term younger visitors can enjoy our spring trail and, over the bank holiday Monday, hear from The Workhouse Storytellers. Listen as these costumed performers recount powerful stories of despair and consider the views of the various characters involved. We are also running a range of craft activities in the children’s playground including graffiti weaving (a type of modern street art using textiles to create colourful displays), stick weaving and creating flowers with recycled materials.

Tattershall Castle
Spend a unique day at Tattershall Castle in Lincolnshire this half term with medieval archery, hunting and cooking at the Dangerous to Delicious event. Meet the Wolfshead Bowmen, have a go with a longbow and get up close and personal with medieval hunting techniques (including a fantastic archery display) every day from Sat 25 May to Wed 29 May (11am-4pm). Explore the castle and grounds with a children’s trail (£2) and discover lots of medieval games dotted in the tower to play with family and friends. For outdoor fun, test your balance and creativity in the brand new Weirs Workshop play area. If you’re looking to kick start or continue ‘50 things to do before you’re 11¾’, the warm breeze on the inner ward is an ideal spot to fly a kite, while the rookery makes for the best bird watching. With more activities to complete and the freedom to explore, you can make the day your way at Tattershall Castle.
Belton House
May half term is the perfect time to head outdoors and get closer to nature. Trek the parkland to explore Belton’s wildlife or let off steam in Lincolnshire’s biggest outdoor adventure playground. Fancy a spell indoors? Then get crafty everyday in the Discovery Centre. If you are looking for something more serene, then you can be inspired by Belton’s Creative Women and let this season’s trail about art, botany and sculpture bring out the artist in the family (£2). Alternatively join our family house tour (Thu 30 May, 11am-12noon) and enjoy the House through younger eyes. £3 per child.

Lyveden
Join us for our ‘Lyveden ALIVE!’ week this May half term. Help us investigate Lyveden’s wilder inhabitants with free trails, worksheets and activity sessions, every day between 11am and 4pm. There are plenty of opportunities to get closer to nature with a range of free activities. Try your hand at pond-dipping or hunt for bugs and discover which creepy crawlies like to call the hedgerows at Lyveden their home.

Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens
This half term go bird-spotting in the house at Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens in Lincolnshire with the new kid’s trail (£1). Find toy birds and birds that are part of the collection as well as looking for birds in the grounds.
Pick up a mallet and challenge your friends and family to a game of croquet on the back lawn. Gunby is also great for completing some of your ’50 things to do before you’re 11¾’ adventures, like skimming a stone, spotting a fish, getting to know a tree and finding your way with a map. Why not bring a picnic and have an outdoor feast in your perfectly chosen sunny or shady spot? If you look well enough, you may also get to meet Craig and Committee (so called because she looks like she was designed by one), the Gunby resident cats, who are often sunbathing in the walled garden.
