A local mum is embarking on an extraordinary challenge with the support of her workplace, Boundary Outlet at Gonerby Moor, Grantham to honour the memory of her daughter, Sinéad, who tragically passed away last summer at just 24 years old following a sudden heart attack.
Linda, a receptionist at the store, is leading a symbolic walking challenge inspired by Sinéad’s love of fantasy, family, and friendship. The fundraiser, a collective 1,779-mile walk in tribute to Frodo’s journey to Mordor in The Lord of the Rings, aims to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

“On July 13th, 2024, my life was forever changed,” Linda shared. “My beautiful, talented, witty, clever, country music-loving daughter Sinéad had a heart attack. There were no symptoms. It was completely out of the blue.”
Sinéad received CPR from family members until paramedics and an Air Ambulance team arrived. Though she was initially revived, she suffered a second cardiac arrest. After two weeks of tests at Nottingham Hospital, doctors confirmed she had sustained catastrophic brain damage. Her life support was switched off, and she passed away in the early hours of July 28th.
It was later discovered that Sinéad had been living with an undiagnosed congenital heart condition since birth, one that had never shown any symptoms until that tragic day.
Sinéad, who was autistic, was just beginning to build the life she dreamed of. She was studying Animation at York St John University with guidance from a dedicated mentor and had formed a circle of friends who embraced and understood her. She also worked her first job at Boundary Outlet’s coffee shop, the same place where her mother Linda works.
“This challenge is being run through Boundary Outlet, where we’ve received such kindness,” said Linda. “Sinéad loved reading, and as a family, we adored The Lord of the Rings. So what better way to honour her than to symbolically walk to Mordor, not literally, of course, but by clocking up those 1,779 miles together as a team.”
Linda and her “Fellowship,” made up of family, friends, and supporters, will map their steps on a Middle Earth-themed tracker as they progress through the summer. The challenge is both a tribute and a way to find light in the darkness.
“This summer we walk for Sinéad,” Linda added. “We’ll take in the beauty she saw in the world and maybe listen to a bit of John Denver along the way.”
The group encourages anyone moved by Sinéad’s story to consider donating. “Even £1 from each person who reads this could make such a difference,” Linda said.
All funds raised will go directly to the British Heart Foundation to support life-saving research and raise awareness of hidden heart conditions in young people.
