The donation was made following Anti-Bullying Week (11th to 15th November), which is an annual campaign organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA) to raise awareness of bullying and promote empathy, kindness and inclusivity in school communities.
The donated bench carries an inscription designed to reinforce the campaign’s message: ‘We sit, we chat and ask each other questions. We leave as friends, with all good intentions.’ This message reflects the campaign’s theme this year, which is ‘Choose Respect’, urging students to consider how their actions impact others and the importance of treating everyone with kindness and understanding.
Corby Glen Community Primary School is located close to the homebuilder’s Pastures Place development located within the village. The school has embraced this addition as a valuable tool to create a more inclusive environment where students are encouraged to make new friends, resolve conflicts peacefully, and take a stand against bullying.
Mr Zak Warner, Headteacher at Corby Glen Community Primary School, said: “We are grateful to David Wilson Homes for the kind donation of our buddy bench. Our school has a strong sense of community that permeates everything we do.
“We naturally stand against bullying and promote inclusivity, respect and kindness. The buddy bench is a superb addition to our playground and its message embodies our views on friendship very nicely.”
John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We’re proud to partner with Corby Glen Community Primary School on this initiative and hope that the buddy bench will serve as a symbol of kindness, empathy, and respect for years to come.
“By promoting these values throughout and following Anti-Bullying Week, we aim to help students understand the positive impact they can have on others by choosing respect in their daily interactions.”
