From 1 to 31 August, children aged 5 to 15 can travel free on most local buses across England. There’s no pass, app or registration needed, they just hop on.
Around Grantham, the offer covers the Centrebus town services, including the 1, 1A and 1B to Alma Park and Earlesfield, and the 9 towards Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir. For a bigger day out, the Stagecoach 1 from Grantham Bus Station to Lincoln is included too.
It’s part of the government’s Great British Summer Savings scheme, which is also cutting the cost of children’s meals in restaurants, cinema and theatre tickets, and entry to attractions like theme parks and soft play over the holidays. It follows a separate announcement that bus fares will be capped at £2 from January.
Child fares usually cost between £1 and £2 each way, so for families making regular trips it adds up over the month. Full details and a postcode tool showing local offers are on the government’s Summer Savings website, and it’s worth checking your operator’s site for individual services.
