The site of Grantham’s former Aldi store, has gone on sale, with an asking price of more than £1 million.
At 14,000 square feet, the commercial land on South Parade has been priced up on Rightmove at a minimum of £1.2 million.
It is comprised of a purpose-built food store, previously used to house the German discount supermarket, and 92 car parking spaces.
Aldi relocated to a brand new store on the corner of Harlaxton Road and Trent Road in March, meaning the land is available immediately for anyone willing to pay for it.
The popular family-owned chain has laid out plans for expansion in Lincolnshire over the coming years, with four new supermarkets at different stages of development. A new supermarket in Horncastle has been given the official go-ahead, with plans submitted for an Aldi by Swineshead Road roundabout in Boston and proposals to come for one in Holbeach
Plans for a Market Deeping store were rejected, though the company remains in talks with the district council.
According to Lamb & Swift Commerical, the Bolton-based commercial letting agency handling the sale of the former site, the property is held on an historic sub underlease for the next 94 years, with a 122-year lease having begun on September 1, 1994.
Many locals have their fingers crossed that McDonald’s would move there, to improve driving conditions on Bridge End Road.
Neighbours would also like to see it reoccupied, claiming antisocial behaviour on the site since become vacant.
