Feedback sought on new car park charges

October 30, 2024 Leave a Comment

Plans to re-shape tariffs at South Kesteven District Council-run car parks are under way in a bid to boost the local economy.

Feedback is being sought on changes to car parking tariffs, which were approved by SKDC’s Cabinet on 24 September.

Cllr Richard Cleaver, Cabinet Member for Property and Public Engagement, said: “We have listened to our local community.

“Responding to initial reservations from the public, community groups and other stakeholders about our first set of proposals for off street parking charges we are now able to present a fresh set of parking charge tariffs for consideration after three years with no price increase.

“The changes to Grantham pricing, which include the first hour free at all but one car park, which will offer two hours free, reflect our desire to improve on low usage and we believe this incentive will support the regeneration of our high streets and shopping areas.”

Previous plans to charge for evening parking, Sunday and bank holiday charging have been dropped, with the chargeable period remaining 8am-6pm.

One hour’s free parking will be available at Grantham’s short stay car parks in Grantham Guildhall St, Watergate, Welham St and Conduit Lane. The Wharf Road multi story will offer two hours free, in line with the independently operated ground level spaces.

Changes will also be made to parking tariffs in Stamford. Responding to demand, an extra 146 spaces will be provided, along with electric vehicle charging points.

In both towns, those who require frequent parking have the option of purchasing a season ticket.

Interested parties have a two-week window to comment on the changes. To submit feedback please email the Council at parkingcharges@southkesteven.gov.uk from today (30th October) until the 13th November 2024.

A wider review is also planned in six months to gauge the effect of new parking charges, the addition of new spaces in Stamford, season ticket demand and any other changes that may impact on car park usage.

  • All car park ticket machines in SKDC car parks are now enabled for card/contactless payment.
  • Blue Badge holders park free in any SKDC car parks.
  • Street parking and residents’ parking permits are operated by Lincolnshire County Council.
