Final score Morley u14 – 6 Grantham 14 – 23
A squad of 9 Grantham U14s players made the mid week long journey up to Leeds to face Morley WPC. All 9 players were able to have a lot of time in the pool and played some great water polo, individually but also as a team.
The players had to adjust to playing in a pool with a shallow end and deal with the difficulties a shallow end can provide! All players listened to their coaches instructions and were all able to avoid any majors for touching the floor. The first quarter saw Grantham edge in front with a score of 1-5.
The opposition had a couple of really strong players but Grantham kept their cool and defended their attacking plays. Grantham managed to keep the lead in the second quarter with a score of 3-10.
Each quarter saw teams switch ends and alternate with the shallow and deep ends of the pool. Quarter three saw Grantham score another 5 goals and produce more great defence efforts taking them into the last quarter with a score of 5-15.
The last quarter saw a change in the GK position and Olly made his debut in his first match as an outfield player. Olly produced some strong swimming, defending, a few assists and even scored a goal! Gabriel stepped in as GK for the last quarter and he did himself proud. A little nervous to start but he soon found his rhythm and managed some superb saves with the opposition only able to score one goal in the last quarter.
Lots of great attacking play demonstrated by all the Grantham players meant some strong goal scoring opportunities with goals scored by Seth (4), Sam (12), Bella (1), Olly (1) and Josh (5).
The players all worked really well as a team and never gave up proving to be a strong opposition all the way through the match.
Thank you to all the players for a great match, coaches Dave and Lauren and to all the parents who managed to get the players up the A1 to Leeds on a school night.
