Getting the exercise we need whatever our age and state of health has become one of the government’s and the NHS’ top priorities.
Thanks to funding from Sport England a group of 24 local people aged 60+ have enjoyed a weekly 2 hour fun tennis skills session at Grantham Tennis Club and as a result many of them (see photo) have developed into very enthusiastic and regular tennis players looking forward to a very active spring and summer!
The feedback from participants in “Active@60+!” has been overwhelmingly positive with an equal emphasis on the benefits for both physical and mental health. Dale Wright, project organiser for Grantham Tennis Club, highlighted the many new friendships formed through the scheme and also strong support he has received from local GPs in helping to publicise the Active! programme
Now there is going to be a chance for anyone else 60+ to come along to the Club on Gonerby Rd on Tuesdays at 1 pm, starting 4th March, to come and give tennis a go! You can be a complete beginner or perhaps not played since school days.
The expert coaching will ensure you have a safe, light-hearted introduction to the basic skills and a fun time is guaranteed!
All equipment is provided, it is free of charge thanks to Sport England funding and you will be assured of a very warm welcome. Just come along on March 4th or 11th at 1 pm – or a phone call to the Club reception on 01476 591391 for any questions.
See you on court!
