Angus Dow (1959- )
ERIC Angus Dow was born in Cheshire, and since 1985 has been club professional at Stoke Rochford Golf Club.
His Scottish-born parents moved to Harby, Leicestershire, when he was still a schoolboy.
He became hooked on golf at the age of 11, thanks to his grandfather, playing most of his early tees at Mansfield and Radcliffe-on-Trent.
He progressed through various teams and by the age of 18 was playing off scratch.
Before he was 20, he had collected scores of trophies from around the country , including the Leicestershire Fox and a third in the British Youth.
Aged 21, he became assistant professional to Brian Waites, then in Europe’s top ten.
Angus went on the European tour, and on his return was appointed to the Stoke Rochford post.
Golf isn’t his only sporting love. In his youth he enjoyed football, basketball and getting behind the wheel of a racing car.
But being a golf pro can be time consuming – some summer weeks can last 80 hours, so the other sports went to the wall.
