Do you wish to stand for election to SKDC? Full details of what to do and when

September 7, 2026 Leave a Comment

A by-election has been called to fill the vacant seat on South Kesteven District Council for St Wulfram’s Ward in Grantham.

This is to ensure that local people are fully represented in the local decision-making process.

The date for the by-election has been set for Thursday 22nd October.

Potential candidates are being urged to act quickly, because completed nomination papers must be submitted before 4pm on Friday 25th September.

The by-election provides the opportunity for a local person to step forward to help make important decisions on council services and local concerns.

Full details, advice, background information and what to do next, is available online at www.southkesteven.gov.uk/October22

SKDC Chief Executive Karen Bradford, who is also the Returning Officer for the by election, said: “This is an opportunity for someone to represent the views of local people, to support residents with their issues, and help shape their neighbourhood by driving ideas.

“The role of a councillor is to serve and represent everyone in the ward that they are elected to, and no experience is necessary – there is lots of support available to anyone who wants to be elected to become part of local decision-making.

“There is a deadline of Friday 25th September, to deliver nomination papers to us by hand. They will need to be signed by both a proposer and seconder, who must both be registered local government electors in the Grantham St Wulfram’s ward.”

Candidates who need more advice – or assistance to complete their paperwork – can speak with SKDC elections officers, who are on hand throughout to explain the application process, answer any questions and informally check nominations papers ahead of submission.

Nomination papers and information packs are available at the SKDC website or directly from the SKDC Elections Team by calling 01476 406080 or emailing elections@southkesteven.gov.uk

Completed forms must be delivered by hand to the office of the Returning Officer, South Kesteven House, St Peter’s Hill, Grantham, NG31 6PZ until Friday 25thSeptember, 10am-4pm (weekdays). Appointments to deliver papers should be booked by email nominations@southkesteven.gov.uk
