A diet consultant has been fuelling the fight against Covid-19 by donating supplies to NHS staff and frontline workers.
In her latest donation, Georgette Louis, an independent consultant with The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan, handed over bags of snacks and nutritious meals to staff at Peterborough’s Edith Cavell Hospital’s pharmacy.
The donation was made as part of Mental Health Awareness Week, highlighting the effect the current pandemic is having on many people’s mental health and the importance of eating well on overall wellbeing.
As well as donating products, Georgette, who is based in Crowland and has clients across the Spalding, Peterborough and Stamford areas, offers a 10 percent discount on the weekly 1:1 Diet Step programme to NHS and blue light workers, to make staying fit and healthy as easy and affordable as possible.
She said: “I have always offered the discount to our NHS workers because, to be honest, where would we be without them?
“The situation we now find ourselves in actually demonstrates that more than ever – so this is just my small way of saying thank you.
“I’m proud to say that our products are deliciously nutritious with all the protein and vitamins needed to ensure good nutrition, which in turn boosts immune health – which is a must now more than ever.”
Georgette is also encouraging those who have packed on a few extra pounds during lockdown to get in touch and take the first steps to a healthier lifestyle.
Figures published by The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan suggest that almost half of Brits have put on weight during lockdown, with 16 per cent putting on more than 5lbs and two per cent putting on more than a stone.
Some of the reasons given include comfort eating, being bored, lack of routine, less exercise, drinking more alcohol and feeling more stressed or anxious.
Almost half of those asked said they had become more aware of their health since the pandemic began. Whereas, said they, they previously took their health for granted, they now planned to make changes to their lifestyle.
Almost half (45 percent) said they intended to increase the amount of exercise they were doing, 41 per cent said they would change what they were eating, 21 percent said they would cut down on alcohol and 16 percent said they would be considering starting a diet plan or programme.
Georgette said: “Now is a good time to make the decision to be a healthier you. Whether you want to lose weight or just start eating more nutritionally balanced, healthy food, I’m here to support you.
“That’s what makes the 1:1 Diet a success. I can support your journey via weekly video/phone call to keep you on track and accountable and I can arrange free delivery so you to have all the products you need for your weight loss journey.
