The countdown for two by-elections in South Kesteven is under way with a deadline for prospective candidates of this Friday, October 14th, at 4pm.
Those wishing to stand for election to Bourne East Ward or Grantham St Wulfram’s Ward of South Kesteven District Council can now submit their nomination papers for the election to take place on November 10th.
Nomination packs which explain the process, the election timetable as well as matters relating to voting, campaigning and count arrangements, are available from the elections team and can be downloaded from our website http://www.southkesteven.gov.uk/byelections
Potential candidates may have their papers informally checked by the elections team first. Anyone who would like assistance should email nominations@southkesteven.gov.uk to make an appointment.
With only a few weeks remaining before residents go to the polls, voters wishing to use a postal vote are being urged to apply for it and return it as soon as possible, due to the planned postal strikes.
The application form for postal voting can be downloaded from www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter/how-cast-your-vote
Chief Executive and Returning Officer for the District, Karen Bradford, said: “We very much welcome candidates putting themselves forward to represent the community. Our Elections staff will do what they can to make this process straightforward for anyone who needs advice or assistance.
“To help these by-elections to run as smoothly as possible, I would urge anyone who can’t make it to their polling station on November 10th to use their postal vote and return it as soon as they can.”
Polling cards for the by-elections are being delivered to households in the two electoral wards starting this week. They confirm the election date and show which polling station to visit – but people do not need to take it with them to vote.
Full details can be found at the SKDC website www.southkesteven.gov.uk/elections2022
You need to be registered to be able to vote in elections and referendums so for those who do not receive a polling card, or where the details are incorrect, the deadline for registering at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote is 11.59pm on Tuesday 25th October.
