InvestSK, South Kesteven’s economic development and regeneration company, has awarded grants amounting to £5,644 to local creative artists to support their talent development, through new funding made available by South Kesteven District Council.
The first five awards have been made to individuals across South Kesteven covering a wide range of cultural activities: from dance and music, to performance and the visual arts. Some of the recipients are only 10-years old, showing the commitment and passion to arts and culture across the district, even at a young age.
Alex Cavan, a singer songwriter from Grantham who has released two albums to date and is regularly featured on BBC Music’s Introducing in Lincolnshire, has received funding to enhance his recording and performance equipment, while Elisha Parker from Bourne, who has performed with the English Youth Ballet, has received support towards her tuition fees.
Meanwhile, Kelly Barfoot, who was shortlisted in the 2017 Astronomy Photographer of Year awards, has been awarded funding to explore rare historic photographic techniques.
Councillor Matthew Lee, The Leader of South Kesteven District Council, said: “We know that South Kesteven is rich in creative talent and the range of applications received through our Small Grants Fund has only strengthened that view.
“I am delighted to see so many talented individuals coming forward to access the funding and I look forward to seeing these local artists develop their skills and progress their careers.”
Michael Cross, InvestSK’s Head of Arts, said: “What a privilege it has been to review the work of so many talented local artists. With applications covering all forms of the creative arts, it just shows how well-served South Kesteven is for upcoming talent.
“The grants we have awarded will help to nurture that talent and support artists to hone their skills and develop performance opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
The Creative Artists’ Small Grants Fund is designed to help both individuals and groups enhance their skills, develop performance opportunities, invest in specialist equipment or promote their activities more effectively in the local area.
Applications for funding in the current financial year have now closed but will re-open in April 2019. For more details please visit: www.investsk.co.uk/creativeartists
