A Councillor has written to Interim Chief Executive at SKDC Paul Thomas, claiming the council is “kicking into the long grass, if they were ever started” ideas for the south Grantham area.
Coun Charmaine Morgan says she is now escalating all of these to formal complaints:
1.Conservation Areas – south Grantham
SKDC failed to follow up on the expansion of the St Annes Conservation area to include the end of Dudley Road, Former Mill sites, Dysart Park, parts of Bridge End Rd and Victorian streets Houghton Rd and Edward St.
Railway Station + Terraces
Another Conservation area was to be established around the Railway terraces. Instead of doing the work promised to Conserving Grantham members when phase 1 of the Conservation area was completed, and evidence provided, SKDC halved the Conservation officer time and nothing has apparently happened since 2014.
2. London Road parade shop front scheme
I called for the London Rd parade of shops to be included in the shop front scheme. The Victorian society recognises it as a rare example of a complete Victorian parade, so many elsewhere having been developed.
3. Local listing
When St Catherine’s House site went to planning appeal the planning Inspector said he wanted to save the building but, despite mentioning it in the local listing document SKDC officers had failed to put the building in its list of protected sites.
Grantham Hospital
Another such building needing protection is the old Grantham Hospital building which was built and paid for by Grantham residents. I have records showing its original state.
Coun Morgan said: “The failure of SKDC to protect the old hospital building from neglect by United Lincolnshire Hospital Trusts is clearly evident.
“The building has been allowed to fall into disrepair yet was once a jewel in the healthcare provision of our community. Its not in my Ward but is in my town and is of significant interest to local people. I have suggested it becomes a convalescent home. Was assured this was being considered in Communities Committee but again no action.”
She added, asignificant double fronted Victorian house – once owned by former Mayor of Grantham Arthur Eatch, on corner Houghton Road and Bridge End Road, is currently up for auction.
“Its demolition or inappropriate development would affect that area. It marks the beginning of the Victorian heritage.
“Please investigate these complaints. Whatever circumstances applied in the past, please move them forward.”
The Thinker says
Holy Christ in heaven, what the hell has happened to that place, just deliberate ruination of a hospital.
