Three placements are now available for traineeships in heritage skills in Lincolnshire.
Applications can be made for Traditional Slate Making, Coir Matting and Heritage Joinery, through the council’s Historic Environment Skills website, here, where you can also find more information about the courses.
The successful applicants will join 6 other active trainees, aged between 20 and 50 who are already carrying out placements learning heritage skills.
Lizzie Whittington, HES Project Coordinator said: “Our traineeships are open to anyone, but we’re particularly interested in hearing from people with an interest in heritage looking to start a new career in what are very skilled areas that are suffering from skill shortages. You don’t necessarily need an academic background, we’re looking for commitment and enthusiasm.
“We’re delighted that one of our existing trainees is just completing his placement and going on to take up a full-time joinery position with the company who has hosted his traineeship.
Trainees recently completed a module in ‘Understanding the Repair and Maintenance of Pre-1919 buildings’ which was delivered remotely but ended with a practical case study trip to St Bartholomew’s Church in Covenham St Mary’s, near Louth.
The trustees of St Bartholomew’s Church, kindly hosted the visit where trainees learnt from a structural engineer assessing the church for repairs.
Historic Environment Skills is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and has been running since 2018. The project is managed by Lincolnshire County Council and partnered with Lincolnshire Cathedral and Heritage Lincolnshire.
The deadlines for placements are from 18 September. More information about HES and traineeships can be found at:
