A group that helps with emotional wellbeing is getting support for its meetings during the Covid pandemic with a £400 Ward Member Grant from SKDC Cllr Jacky Smith.
Renew Wellbeing is for anyone struggling with isolation and their mental and emotional health.
People take their own hobby, their own drink and follow distancing rules for meetings at Grantham Baptist Church.
Cllr Smith (St Wulfram’s Ward) said: “This is a group responding to the need for those who feel isolated or stigmatised to go along to a small meeting and experience acceptance, share a hobby or enjoy a cup of tea and boost their self-esteem and positivity.
“It’s a very worthy cause and this donation will go towards table cloths and hobby supplies.”
Organiser Louise Lamb said: “We can host a group of ten people at each weekly two-hour session with provision to expand if numbers grow.
“It’s legal for churches to provide meeting places under current Covid regulations to support those who can’t access online or feel less comfortable with the technology. It’s a café-style space, somewhere to belong, share hobbies and skills, and somewhere that everyone’s equal and valued.”
The group meetings, on Fridays from 10am to noon, are currently scheduled to resume on 8 January after a Christmas break. For more information go to www.renewwellbeing.org.uk
The local artist behind a series of successful online sketching classes is to benefit from a £500 SKDC grant to help more of the community share her work.
Stamford artist Karen Neale is working on a new commission for Uffington Village Hall. The artwork is one of Karen’s trademark architectural pieces – on this occasion a map featuring some of the key buildings and landmarks of the picturesque South Kesteven village.
The commission was made possible thanks to a Ward Member Grant fund award of £500 from Councillor Rosemary Trollope-Bellew (Casewick Ward and Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy).
Councillor Trollope-Bellew said: “2020 has been a truly challenging year for freelancers working in the creative sector. This commission has provided a talented local artist with an opportunity to share her creative skills. It is also giving Uffington Village Hall a delightful piece of original art that will grace its walls for many years to come.”
Village Hall representative Vanessa Kimberly said: “We are very grateful for the Ward Member Grant and have also produced a copy of the map and some greetings cards featuring the sketch. These will go on sale towards Village Hall funds.”
