Colsterworth’s A1 slip road roundabouts set for reconstruction

Essential road reconstruction works will take place in Colsterworth at the east and west roundabouts connecting to the A1, starting in early June.

Cllr David East, executive member for highways, said: “These roundabouts are very heavily-trafficked and are in much need of some TLC. That’s why we’ll be heading out to Colsterworth this summer to resurface them.

“This is a significant scheme that will see a full reconstruction of these key junctions and some of the nearby A151, using over 3,000 tonnes of material to strengthen the road for the future.

“When finished, people travelling through the area will no doubt notice the difference on the carriageway, which will be much safer and smoother to drive on.”

Cllr Charlotte Vernon, county councillor for Colsterworth Rural, said: “These two roundabouts see thousands of vehicles using them every week. Unfortunately, the road surfacing on them is starting to fail, which has led to some cracking and potholes forming.

“Over time, these issues would only get worse – so I’m glad to see that the county council’s highways team will be fully rebuilding the carriageway before that can happen.

“Not only will this project improve safety at both roundabouts, but it will also return the road surface back to its original condition, ensuring it remains fit for purpose for years and years to come.”

A 24/7 road closure will also be in place from the early morning of Saturday 13 June until late evening on Sunday 14 June

West diversion via A1 / A607 (Grantham/Melton Mowbray) / Saxby Road / Garthorpe Road / Coston Road / Buckminster Road / Stainby Road / Bourne Road

Cllr David East added: “To keep traffic flowing, we’re carrying out much of the works overnight. This will keep the A151 fully open during the day, when it’s at its busiest, while also allowing us to safely carry out the project.

“I’d like to thank everyone in advance for their patience while we carry out these essential improvements.”
