The A1 south of Grantham was closed last night due to what was initially described as a “police led incident” .
National Highways announced that the A1 had been closed in both directions at 9.50pm yesterday (Saturday).
The roads network agency said the key route had been shut between the A606 and the A6121. In a tweet, National Highways said: “The A1 is closed both ways between the A606 and the A6121 near Stamford due to an incident being led by Lincs Police. Traffic Officers are en route to assist with strategic closures.”
A later tweet and an update by roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix suggest that while the road remains closed northbound, it had reopened southbound on Saturday night.
This morning, National Highways confirmed the road had reopened. It said: “The scene is now clear and the road has re-opened on the A1 northbound between the A606 Stamford and the A607 Grantham following an earlier serious collision.”
