Planning has started for next September’s Gravity Fields Festival and the public is being invited to help shape the event.
The science, arts and heritage festival, organised by South Kesteven District Council, takes place every two years in and around Grantham to celebrate the local links with and legacy of Sir Isaac Newton.
Now interested parties can add an element of ‘citizen science’ and their ideas to a drop-in meeting on Monday 19 August, with three sessions organised at the King’s School Old Hall on Church Street in Grantham between 1pm-7pm.
Anyone wishing to attend is asked to pre-register on the InvestSK website.www.investsk.co.uk/events
Michael Cross, Head of Arts for InvestSK, SKDC’s economic growth and regeneration company, said he is keen to open up conversations on themes, potential speakers and community involvement.
“This is a chance for people to come along and tell us what they loved about past Gravity Fields festivals and what they would like to see in the programme next time around,” he said.
“Let’s get citizen science to help make our 2020 programme a truly community-inspired event.
“What themes should we include? Which performers or science speakers are people keen to see and which venues are best? Come along and let us know, but please make sure that you register beforehand.”
Sir Isaac Newton was born and brought up at Woolsthorpe Manor and educated at the King’s School, Grantham. The Arts Council has supported Gravity Fields since the first festival in his honour in 2012 and last year’s five-day event drew a record audience of around 83,000.
