Savoy Cinemas has announced that Walt Disney’s The Lion King will top the bill for its opening line-up for its new town centre multiplex. Tickets will be on sale from Monday, for the grand opening on 19th July.
Other titles will include Pixar’s Toy Story 4, the largest opener for the franchise that began on UK cinema screens in 1995, along with Marvel’s ‘Spiderman – Far From Home’ and supernatural horror ‘Annabelle Comes Home.’
Savoy’s Commercial Director Mark Welberry said: “The Savoy is opening at a fantastic time for cinema goers! The Lion King is one of the most anticipated films of the year and the perfect movie to open with. It starts a tremendous summer of film with Hobbs and Shaw, Angry Birds 2 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in August. We can’t wait to get started!”
Along with the latest Hollywood fare, screenings of live events will be a regular feature, including Theatre, Opera, Ballet and Concerts, streamed real- time from landmark venues around the world. The first will be a concert screening of world-renowned Dutch Violinist André Rieu, which will take place on Saturday 27th July. Tickets for these events will also be on sale from Monday.
As completion of the cinema quickly approaches, things are moving fast on site with the recent arrival of seats, screens and the very latest in projection and sound technology. (see attached photos)
St Mary’s school will be the first in the area to be welcomed to the Savoy, for a private screening of The Lion King on the morning of the 19th July.
Michaela Hamilton from St Mary’s school said: “Some of our pupils were fortunate to see the new cinema being built and they had a tour of the site and structure. We are looking forward to being the first school to visit the new cinema and see it in its finished form while celebrating the end of our academic year.”
Following on, a wide variety of targeted screenings will be part of the programme that will include senior screenings, kids clubs, parent and baby screening – all launching during the opening week. Private bookings will also be available for a host of other functions including parties and conferences.
