Two popular children’s stories have been brought to life online, bringing the magic of the countryside into families homes, and featuring the wildlife that’s a feature of Lincolnshire’s unique chalk streams.
Kirsty from Rhubarb Theatre has teamed up with the Lincolnshire Chalk Streams Project to perform favourite stories, ‘The Wind and the Willows’ and ‘Trevor the Troll and the Three Billy Goats Gruff’, which offer the chance to learn about these unique streams and the diverse wildlife that lives along them in Lincolnshire.
‘The Wind and the Willows’ shows characters Ratty and Mole, on board Ratty’s raft embarking on an exciting adventure along a chalk stream. The pair teach us about what makes a chalk stream, through stories, songs and homemade props.
The second story, ‘Trevor the Troll and the Three Billy Goats Gruff’, follows the story of the three billy goats trying to get to the other side of the stream, where they encounter a terrifying troll under the bridge. This story also helps children to understand what kind of wildlife can be found along the bank of a chalk stream.
Ruth Craig, project officer, said, “The online stories are a great way for the Lincolnshire Chalk Streams Project to engage with children and their families, and give them a taste of the outdoors whilst they are at home.
‘It encourages them to use their imaginations to allow the story to come to life, as well as hearing the noises of the streams and rushing waters and the breeze amongst the grass.”
