Cheung, Jonathan – Was top Levi designer in the USA

Jonathan Cheung (c1966)

Born in Grantham, the son of the owner of a popular Chinese restaurant, Jonathan went to King’s School.

In 1985/86 he went to Lincoln College of Art gaining a diploma in Art & Design Fashion & Textiles.

This was followed by three years at Kingston University gaining an Honours 1st Class in Fashion Design.

He joined Levis in 2009 and since July 2013 has been the Head of Global Design for Men’s & Women’s Levi’s®.

Most recently, Jonathan served as a Vice President of Men’s Merchandising and prior to that was the Design Director for Levi’s® Made & Crafted line in Amsterdam.

Before joining Levi’s®, Jonathan worked with two fashion legends, Franco Moschino and Giorgio Armani in Milan. Between working at Armani Jeans and Moschino Couture, Jonathan created the first jeans line for Iceberg.

He has led creative teams in six countries and in three languages (English, Cantonese and Italian). In 2017, Jonathan joined Fashion Tech Lab’s Mentors Board founded by Miroslava Duma.

Athleisurewear specialist Lululemon announced the appointment of Jonathan Cheung as its newest global creative director, in 2024 to lead the company’s global design team while reporting to chief product officer, Sun Choe.

Cheung was tasked with shaping the brand’s global creative strategy, while also creating a roadmap for product design that exhibits an “inspiring creative vision”.

He took 30 years of experience in the realm of creative and business leadership, having most recently served as a consultant to the likes of Gap, Merrell and Pangaia.

He lives in Mill Valley, California surrounded by hummingbirds, lemon trees and Mount Tam, with his wife Zoe and their children Mila and Caspar.
