Arthur Egelwin Campbell Chambers (1874-1953)
CHEMIST in Grantham for many years, Arthur Egelwyne Campbell Chambers, was the son of draper Arthur Chambers.
He was born at the Priory – which his father had renamed St Egelwyne’s Priory. He had employed builder Joe White to build ‘ruins’ of a Franciscan abbey in the garden which is still there.
Arthur junior went to King’s School and became an apprentice at pharmacists J Cox & Son, of Watergate. When Mr Cox died in 1913, He took over the business.
In turn he was joined by his only son Campbell ‘Cam’ Chambers on his demobilisation from the Army.
A well-known local golfer. Mr Chambers was member of the Belton Park Club for many years, collecting many trophies.
He left his collection of birds eggs, butterflies and moths, and his books on natural history, to his grandson. Anthony J C.Scaife.
