Barnstone Cement Works held a coffee morning and cake sale last Friday (25thSeptember) as part of Macmillan Cancer’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and raised £157 for the charity.
Employees at the plant in Barnstone, Nottinghamshire, which is part of Tarmac, supported the event by baking buns, cakes and biscuits, which staff and visitors bought and enjoyed during their breaktimes during the day.
Josie Morrissey, environmental co-ordinator at Barnstone Cement Works, said: “This was a great opportunity for our plant to put in a bit of effort to help raise funds for a fantastic cause. Some of our employees are keen bakers, so we had a great selection of cakes and buns, which made it a great event.”
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. Companies and individuals host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone, the charity raised £25 million and since the coffee mornings began in 1990, Macmillan has raised £137m in this way.
