CBO for Grantham shoplifter

A shoplifter in Grantham has been given a court order banning her from entering retail premises in the town.

The two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) has been given to Connie Challis, 26, as a way to prevent her from offending in stores in the town, and is the result of hard work by the local Neighbourhood Policing Team and South Kesteven District Council.

Challis, of no fixed address, was given the civil order at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Monday (15 January) when she attended a hearing where she was convicted of two thefts from ASDA in Grantham on different dates in January. The first had taken place on 3 January, where she stole four bottles of spirits, and the second happened on 10 January where she stole three bottles of spirits.

The conditions prohibit her from entering any retail premises in Grantham except Lidl in Watergate, and Matalan at Dysart Retail Park.

A CBO is a civil order designed to tackle the most serious and persistent anti-social individuals where their behaviour has brought them before a criminal court. The orders mean there are now enforceable rules on where he can and cannot go.

If the CBO is breached, this is a criminal offence, and a custodial sentence can be enforced. For the most serious offences, this can be up to five years.
