Inspirational mum of three, Deborah Spilsbury, a Care Schedular at Home Instead East Nottingham & Melton Mowbray, was crowned the winner of ‘The Home Care Co-Ordinator Award’ category at the National Great British Care Awards 2021.
Deborah progressed to the National Great British Care Awards following success at the East Midlands Regional awards last year, having been recognised for her heroic actions during challenging times of late.
Deborah was recognised as being passionate about what she does, putting colleagues and clients before herself. During last year’s fuel crisis, Care Professionals across the sector struggled to see clients, so Deborah contacted several petrol stations and established which ones were stocked up, before communicating this to the company’s Care Professionals. Thanks to Deborah’s initiative, the team could continue visiting clients and meeting their needs.
The glittering awards evening took place at ICC Birmingham. It was presented by TV favourite Kate Garraway plus comedian, Steve Walls, and paid tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field, with over 1,100 people in attendance.
Deborah competed against all of the other worthy regional winners from across England, Scotland and Wales, and was selected as the best of the best.
Deborah is currently working from home and shielding after undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, so Care Manager Helen Speed accepted the award on her behalf from Kate Garraway, who thanked the audience for the care they provide.
Home Instead East Nottingham & Melton Mowbray Owner and Director, Richard Aram delivered the award to Deborah’s home. He said: “I’m so proud of Debs’ amazing success, particularly given that she has had a difficult year. Selfless as always, she was determined to carry on working whilst receiving treatment. Debs has continued to schedule our Care Professionals’ visits to our clients and answer the phone whilst working from home. It is very humbling to witness her determination, resilience and commitment to be a reliable member of our Home Instead team.”
“Deborah is still receiving treatment, but she already has a date in mind to return to the office. She is simply an inspirational lady and richly deserves to be recognised as the National Care Coordinator of the year.”
Deborah said: “I am thrilled to have been awarded this title as I love working within an industry where I can truly make a difference to people’s lives and wellbeing. It’s an honour to work for such a caring team that makes a positive difference to the community, and I’m so thankful for the support that I have received from them recently.”
