Can the Ron Dawson Hall survive?

January 30, 2026 Leave a Comment

Since it’s opening in May 1993 the Hall has served the Corby Glen community well.

Whether as a home for the Pre-School, a sporting venue or as a party or meeting place it has always had an important role within the village. Currently it hosts a football club each week, Pre-school all week and has been hosting the very popular Corby Glen Events.

It is financially secure at present with income in excess of expenditure for the first time in recent years, solar panels have reduced our main expenditure on electricity and the toilets have just been re-furbished. So potentially the Hall is in a very strong position to continue to serve the community.

However, to do this relies on volunteers agreeing to participate in the running of it and currently we are down to two trustees, one of whom has a full time job. Ideally we need six trustees to maintain and grow the Hall. This situation cannot continue.

Already we have had to take the decision not to take any further bookings and without help the future is even bleaker. Our AGM is normally held in April and this will be the crunch time for the Hall. If there is no change to the current situation then the next steps will be towards the ultimate closure of the Hall. I can’t believe this is what the village wants.

There are many people who benefit directly from the hall being open.

Parents of toddlers, parents of footballers, the hundreds of people who have attended one of the musical events, the many people who have organised or attended parties there. Somewhere within that large group of people there must be some who would be prepared to devote a relatively small amount of time to keeping the Hall open. The village is growing and a vibrant place to live.

Don’t let’s lose one of it’s major assets. I personally am happy to continue, but not alone. If you are prepared to help, please phone me on
