Allan Burrows (1930-2011)

ALAN Burrows was a leading and highly regarded local businessman.

Born in Great Ponton he attended the local primary school and then the Boys’ Central School, Hill Avenue, Grantham.

After school he served in the RAF before returning to Great Ponton to work with his uncle as a painter and decorator. He expanded the business into contracting and then property development and investment.

From the 1970s onwards he built up substantial property holdings in Grantham and the East Midlands, including Autumn Park.

In 1954 he met Evelyn Saill and they were married the following year. They  had two children, Linda and Peter.

He was a talented cricketer and table tennis player having competed at county level in both.

In addition to his family and businesses his main interests were his garden and home at Carlton Scroop.

He was still actively involved with his businesses at the age of 81 when he was taken ill while on holiday with friends and died peacefully in hospital.
