Thomas Burbage (1907-1941)
THOMAS Edward Burbage died with tragic suddenness in Harrogate General Hospital, just eight days after his marriage.
Brought up in Oxford-street, Grantham, he served his apprenticeship a hairdresser with Fosters of Westgate.
He left the town for a short period, returning to take up business on his own account as hairdresser, at 22 London-road, which he had carried for 12 years on until he was called up.
He was chairman of the Thursday Wolves FC, a keen tennis player, a member the Liberal Club, and before joining the Army, air raid warden.In February 1941 he joined Royal Artillery, as a gunner.
On July 31st. while on seven days leave, he was married to Alice of Huntingtower Road
However, before his death, he received orders to return to his unit, and subsequently passed away Harrogate Hospital.
