Work in well under way on demolishing Grantham’s former Magistrates Court,on Harlaxton Road.
It is making way for a new £3.5m care home after Ladhar Crown Care Developments was given the go-ahead was given to the plans by SKDC.
According to planning documents, the care home will feature 55 bedrooms as well as 21 car parking spaces. A total of 70 full-time equivalent jobs will also be created.
A council document published ahead of the meeting said: “The proposal would provide residential care accommodation to address a local and national need for elderly and disabled housing.
“The design, scale and positioning of the building, along with the removal of the existing building and retention of the existing mature trees on the site would have a positive impact on the character of the area.”
The building, originally erected as the offices for Eddison Plant Hire, were taken over by Grantham Magistrates in the mid 1990s, following their move from London Road.
The court in Grantham closed three years ago.
