John Bradshaw (c1943)
John Bradshaw, launched some of the first local newspaper websites in the UK.
One of his first acts in Grantham was create the Grantham Shopper in 1974, a free newspaper which survived on advertising alone.
It began in Butchers Row before taking over the top floor at Watergate House.
Eventually it also had editions in Rutland, Melton and Syston (Leices).
He sold the business to publishers EMAP (East Midlands Allied Press) and carried on working for them. EMAP then took over the Grantham Journal and the two Grantham businesses merged.
He left in 1986 and after stints as managing director of the Peterborough Evening Telegraph and group managing director of Thomson Free Newspapers, he rejoined EMAP in 1993.
He then set up the firm’s digital division before Johston Press acquired the group’s local newspapers in 1996.
By 2008, when he retired, he had created over 300 websites for local newspapers.
