Union Street Gallery Art Hub is covering it’s building in butterfly murals as part of its aim to fill Grantham with art. Sitting on the corner of Union Street and Lidl car park the gallery exhibits a wide range of original work by local artists including many butterfly themed pieces. The murals are outside and designed for everyone to enjoy being deliberately bright, bold and colourful.

Created in-house but by local and visiting artists they are one small part of the gallery’s commitment to bringing art to the wider community of Grantham. Other work is on display in 12 other venues around the town as part of its ongoing and ever-growing Grantham is a Gallery Project.
Original work can be found in locations as diverse as local shops, cafes and the council offices and a local care home. Grantham crematorium is also taking part and as well as original art now houses an installation of unique metal butterflies bringing gentle colour to a peaceful space within its walls.

Gallery and Grantham Creates C.I.C Director Darren Whiting explains more. “We are an independent, voluntary run organisation committed to bringing art and creative activity to our local communities. The butterfly project is just one example of this and we have other large murals already in production for locations throughout the town. Keep a look out as more hand painted metal butterflies appearing too!”
Union Street Gallery is open 10am to 4pm, Wednesday to Saturday. There are lots of other ways to get involved. Just come in and say hello or contact us via the website www.
