Better security on the way for Wyndham Park

Councillor Charmaine Morgan has shared an update on efforts to improve safety in the town’s parks. In her words:

“After calling for improved security to tackle ASB and other issues in our parks, I have been advised by the SKDC Cabinet lead for Leisure and Culture that there will be a higher police presence and an upgrade of CCTV cameras in Wyndham Park.

I have previously called for CCTV coverage in Dysart Park. This has yet to be provided. CCTV coverage in the London Road/University Square area was approved but delivery is still in the pipeline.

I am aware a group of volunteers is planning to patrol our parks as well. They have yet to engage with St Vincent’s ward councillors. I trust they will do so to ensure we are working together and everyone remains safe. I am happy to listen to their concerns.

The majority of our park users have a positive experience. Sadly this is not true for everyone. It remains important that all incidents are reported to the appropriate authority so we get the resources we need. We have fabulous Green Flag award winning parks. Let’s work together to keep them so. Our parks, waterways and public open spaces are a hugely important part of our town, and I am happy to listen to any concerns and do my best to support you.

I am also asking Grantham Town Council to look at the future of our parks in light of the latest Local Government Reorganisation news. Under the current structure, as SKDC assets, they will fall under the management of Lincolnshire Council.”
